Title: Whitby
Post by PaulineGrainger on 21st Sep, 2015 at 4:45pm
was wondering if there's any news about Whitby. Just to get front row we have to book early. Looked on their site and is advertised for the 3 days as £80 for the 3. Also noticed it was on during the day

Some great acts. I really like Dave Berry & Mike Berry. P.J. ain't bad either! LOL! It's on, as you say Pauline, for 3 days & in total there are 5 great shows. So £80 for all five shows is excellent value...£16 each show.I don't know if you can select different shows or if you have to buy the whole 80 quids worth.I'm having a serious think about attending. Getting the boat from Zeebrugge in Belgium, sleeping over-night in a small cabin & arriving next day in Hull.I then drive my car the reasonable distance up to Whitby. I'll do some checking out soon. One thing is certain....it will be a magic venue with good weather.

Apparently P J is on the Friday show, and You can book individual nights so I might only go for the Friday night just biding my time to ask my driver as no way will I drive all that way and he will be happy if we can combine it with a visit to his family in Liverpool. No good getting old without getting crafty. But I am sure I will be there. :D

300 mile drive for 30 mins, please don't tell Jim :-/, but I love Whitby anyway so it will all be good.

One hour at Canary Wharf, 30' Mill Rythe, 30' Whitby & about 30' on each of the many 60's Gold tour gigs.  ;D
  ....The Maestro is coming back.

P.S. I'm not sure how long P.J. will perform for on the de- luxe boat cruise in Australia.

With all this terrorism happening in France & who knows where next I've decided not to go to France to catch the channel boat or the channel tunnel train to get me over to Dover & from there to other places for P.J.'s great shows.
My sympathy goes to all of the people in Paris who lost a loved one or more in the terrible attacks.
I will now most likely come over to Whitby in June.I think by then a lot of the current & dangerous travel problems will have been sorted.

Sounds like a good idea Ron, a bit much travelling that way at the moment! Hope to see you in Whitby! :D

Title: Re: Whitby
Post by Ron on 20th Nov, 2015 at 5:47pm
I'm a bit wary about going into France for the Channel tunnel train from Lille or the ferry boat from Calais. It's not 100% about being worried about getting shot  :P  but more about trains or boats being cancelled because of terrorist threats & hold ups OR the migrants blocking the tunnel or invading a boat. Whoever is to blame would stop or delay me getting over the Channel. So that would mean me missing the P.J. show after paying for everything in advance (Boat ticket, show ticket & hotel room bill)
I'll play safe & reluctantly stay at home. But look out Whitby in June....I'll be there!  ;D

Hi everyone. Was wondering if anyone was interested in buying my ticket off me for the sixties weekend in Whitby in June as I am unable to go. Its for the full weekend and cost £80. I am willing to sell it for £50 if you are interested. Its cabaret style so you don't have seat numbers. Please let me know
Thanks Pauline

Lovely to meet up with Billy and Margaret, Dave and Wendy, Jean and Del, Annie and her lovely sister, Ronnie, and Lynn working away doing the merchandise table, Manja was working really hard to get things right under very difficult circumstances, had a super time, lovely entertainment, food not bad and a lovely site.( shame about the chalet).
Problems with the sound which was very frustrating for P J, as he is a perfectionist and a real professional, not the right venue for him or for me, but it was lovely to meet up with the fans and exchange our stories, and also to meet up with P J again was the icing on the cake.  :D Still on cloud nine, Whitby bring it on!!!

Cheers Marilyn, it was lovely to see you and Jim again along with the other great fans that you have already mentioned. I have done a little report of the weekend  for this forum and the Delphi forum.
See you at Whitby  :)
Best wishes
Dave

Attention all!

What we feared has happened. Sadly, P.J. Proby will not be performing at Whitby Pavillion in June. The organisers failed to follow the advertisement up with a contract. You're entitled to get your money back, so go for it! Here's a statement from P.J. Proby for you:

P.J. Proby’s Notice of Apology to the Public

Dear Friends,

It is with the utmost regret that I must inform you
that the concert advertising my appearance at
Whitby Pavilion on the 10th of June, is fraudulent.

The promoters of this program are guilty of false
advertisement and misrepresentation in using my
image and name, without the construction of any
formal contract nor agreement.
I offered them a way to amend their mistake, but
the promoters refused my offer.

I can now but offer you my apologies for the gross
misconduct of those involved in this farce.

Never mind, I look forward to seeing you all
this Autumn on the star-studded Sixties Gold Tour.
Until then, all the very best to you and yours!

Sincerely,
P.J. Proby

Managed to speak to Chris at Whitby today and he is sent a letter out to all concerned offering a refund. Good news. :D. When I read some of the comments on Facebook I am so glad I don't go on there as I would find myself replying. What I don't understand is if you are not a P J fan why do they look and comment on there  :D

As long as all the people who want a refund for their ticket money succeed then all is well. That poster with P.J.'s name on it has been out for 6 months, so many P.J. fans had got their tickets & even booked their hotels.I was planning all that plus my £250 boat fare from Zeebruges,Belgium to Hull.
   So glad I held back!!

So you all managed to get a full refund and cancel your hotel??? That is good!
Did anybody try to blame PJ for all this?
Please let us know if there are any problems.
Thank you,

, No blame was mentioned to me and I wouldn't have listened if they did! You always said the contracts hadn't been exchanged so it was a chance I took booking as I didn't want them to sell out, but no way would I travel 300 miles to see Wayne Fontana! Looking forward to Sixties Gold now! :D

I was definitely going to be at Whitby. It would have cost me a fortune as the boat from Zeebrugge to Hull is £250. Plus I would have needed a 4 night hotel stay plus the 80 quid for all the shows. As soon as I heard P.J. would not be appearing my enthusiasm declined & I decided not to go.
Pity...I was going to meet quite a few of my Yorkshire pals there, especially the fantastic ex top footie referee Trevor Simpson who is now the worlds top Elvis book author.

It's a pity about Whitby, although I wouldn't have been going I know it's a chance we take for getting a decent seat booking early.  It's a risk we are all prepared to take for our man.
By the why- thanks joep for getting me back onto the forum, I'm keeping the email with my user name and password - although of course I need to put it somewhere that I will remember!!!!   ::)

Hurray, glad you are one reimbursed Pauline, and I think we will enjoy the gold tour, more with your own numbered seating. Much better than trying to get a reasonable view with club style. :D

Ages ago when the Whitby Live Music Festival organisors realised that P.J. would not be appearing at their June "60's Weekend" concert they should have made it 100% clear that P.J.Proby would officially not be there because they never managed to book him.
I think they probably had made the situation 75% clear & they did refund ticket money to some P.J. fans who asked but of course it's obvious that some P.J. admirers never got to hear that he should never have been put on the original poster anyway until a contract had been signed by him.
So it's the fault of the organisors but as DutchBrand says....P.J. will mostly end up getting the blame.
Hope the local Whitby newspaper will properly explain what happened.
