Title: Sixties gold
Post by mazzajones1 on 9th Dec, 2015 at 8:53am
I have just booked for Reading, Eastboune are always the last venue to put the tickets on sale, so I will have to be patient. Not a lot of choice for us southerners! :D

For me it's Chatham & Margate. I was hoping Canterbury would also be a venue but so far no mention of that beautiful town & theatre.
I'm still wondering who will back P.J.P. & also Wayne Fontana.

What a show at Reading last night, just the best there has ever been in my opinion.  Wayne Fontana - what a character, I was never a particular fan but he was tremendous and so funny, PJ then came on and sang 6 songs - I won't spoil it by telling you which ones and he was great, he cut out a bit of talking which enabled him to get in another song - good idea. Brian Poole and the Tremeloes finished the 1st half, they were fabulous and as usual with Brian they got the audience up on their feet to dance. 2nd half Gary Puckett opened - mediocre for me I'm afraid but the Searchers finished it off with a rip roarin' performance and they included "Ain't Gonna Kiss Ya", with a mention of PJ..  All backed by an un-named band, who we know as The Pacemakers, they are such a great group and so suited for backing just anybody.  Gary Puckett referred to them as The New Union Gap -  No Gary, they're the Pacemakers they're better than Union Gap.  GET THERE FOLKS, YOU WON'T REGRET IT. :D

Great report Annie, It was a very good show. I was pleased to see you there with your handsome escort  ;)
and nice to see Marilyn and Jim, Sean and of course Manja. Thanks to Marilyn for doing a great job selling the merchandise.
Don't forget to keep an eye on BBC's The One Show. At the Hexagon they were filming the Sixties Gold show and interviewed PJ. Probably to be broadcast the 30th of September...  :D

It's not a programme I watch but to be safe I'm recording it every night and taking a look the next day - I'm an Emmerdale fan and it clashes. 8-)

Maybe you can watch "Emmerdale" on ITV +. This is one hour later than all the ITV shows normal times & so in between time you can tune in to the BBC TV for "The One Show".

I went to the Sixties Gold Concert in Chatham on Saturday night.  Have been a fan of Proby's since I was a teenager.  Finally, now Iam 68 I get to see him!  So glad I did.  I don't know what it is about him,but he really has something special.  Would've liked to hear more ballads as I think his matured voice is more suited to them now.  And it goes without saying that I would've liked him to have been given a longer slot.  So pleased he is still going strong & has bounced back from adversity time & again.  It was a fantastic show.  Love you Jimmy xx

I attended the afternoon show in Chatham & that was excellent but the evening show was out of this world. All acts were superb & P.J. shone the brightest!
I sold a lot of Proby articles on the merchandising table.... many different items but most popular was his new CD album "The Enigma In Gold-Vol. 3".
And getting to meet him & Manja for a great chat twice was the icing on the cake!

I do hope it's on the BBC TV "The One Show" tomorrow night (11th Oct.). Fingers crossed!
It should be but just like previous newspaper P.J. interviews sometime changing their date this could happen with the telly also.
Great to see last night on the Beeb singers Alfie Boe & Michael Ball performing together on the show "Strictly Come Dancing:the Results". They sang that wonderful song "Somewhere". Very well done guys but only one singer can really ever give us the absolute best & most treasured version.
   Ron  ;)

Title: Re: Sixties gold
Post by AngelaConnelly on 10th Oct, 2016 at 9:37am
Yes, Boe & Ball sang Somewhere on The Big Sing on TV at the Albert Hall too.  I probably would have thought it was great if we hadn't heard it sung so amazingly well by our special man ...which he did again last night at The Orchard in Dartford. He said he forgot to sing it in the first show.  Not sure if he meant the first show of the tour or the afternoon show in Dartford. Glad he didn't forget last night! I bought his Sixties Hits cd which took me back fifty years. Wonderful!

Fabulous shows in Northampton and St Albans, both were very popular with everyone.Sixties gold 3 CD is great and sold well, some lovely new tracks and reworking of old ones. The afternoon shows are a little shorter so Somewhere is usually cut out.I felt that was a shame as we still love to hear it.Bridget

Doesn't time fly by so quickly. It only seems like 5 minutes ago that the "60's Gold" opened in Reading & now tonight in Doncaster it's venue number 19. Meaning there are only 7 more to go!
This 5 star line-up was possibly the best ever & I was hoping it would all be put on a DVD by the shows promotors. But like all previous "60's Gold" shows none have been preserved forever on film. That I cannot understand.
And the forthcoming de-luxe 60's boat cruise from Brisbane in Australia with an even bigger line-up of legends will also not be put on a DVD.I find that such a pity.

I have to really congratulate The Pacemakers....they back Wayne Fontana,P.J. & Gary Puckett on the "60's Gold" tour & will be doing the same next month on the "Rock The Boat 6" cruise. I bet they will also back some other solo singers on the boat "Legend Of The Seas", so they are really working hard to earn their wages.
Wonder if lovely saxophonist Sophie (Mrs.Young) will be "down under" also. I guess so as she's an important part of The Pacemakers when they back P.J.

The final "60's Gold" gig is tomorrow,1st November at the Bridgewater Hall,Manchester. It's all gone by so amazingly quick but I hope next year virtually the same happens again. The tour was a great success & the FIVE STAR line-up was magic! P.J.P. of course being the best of the lot.
Thank you all the artistes on that tour including of course the hard working & excellent Pacemakers. To those of them who soon fly off "down under" you get my very best wishes & tons of good luck.

Yes I quite agree Ron. I really wonder why P.J. has been left out of the 60,s tour. Doesn't make sense to me. To only get a couple of gigs in a year isn't enough for this great singer. Whilst I always enjoy the other acts on the 60,s tour I only go to see P.J. and wont be going to the show this year for that reason. Not sure how he manages with so little work, and doesn't seem fair.  >:(

Title: Re: Sixties gold
Post by AnnieLean on 5th Jun, 2017 at 12:36pm
Maybe he has his own reasons for not taking part - has anybody asked him?  I'm not going to speculate why but it's just a thought. :-/

Title: Re: Sixties gold
Post by Ron on 5th Jun, 2017 at 7:39pm
I suppose P.J. still gets enough offers from promotors & agents but he always has a great backing group onstage, by the time they have all been paid there's not enough money over for P.J. himself so the deal is not really financially worthwhile!
Here in Belgium lots of top golden oldie singers were getting less & less work for the money they wanted SO most decided to go onstage with backing tracks & not actual backing musicians or singers. So they got less money than before but it's all for the singer & they had no other people to pay.
P.J. could consider doing this but I do not think that would ever enter his head & I admire him for that. P.J. wants the audience to see "proper" live appearances. So well done P.J.
     Ron  :)

I'm hoping that in 2018 P.J. will be back on the "60's Gold" big U.K. tour. In the meantime I do hope he's gets other shows & gigs to perform in 2017 & 2018.
  He's still brilliant!!
       Ron  :)

Title: Re: Sixties gold
Post by AnnieLean on 17th Jun, 2017 at 10:36am
Pj's a professional, I feel he would feel insulted to be asked to do backing tracks instead of a live group - this sort of thing happens to has beens who have lost their voices - no way does this apply to our man.

Title: Re: Sixties gold
Post by PaulineGrainger on 13th Oct, 2017 at 2:18pm
Went to 60s Gold in Gateshead last night. Was a good show but missed PJ being on. Brian Poole was still the greatest.
One of the tremeloes and searchers was missing due to ill health so one of pacemakers joined the searchers.  Its hesrtbreaking seeing Chip since his illness but it didnt affect him singing, he was great

Title: Re: Sixties gold

So on next years "60's Gold" tour Gerry Marsden will not be featured. He's stopping doing long & tiring giant U.K. tours but he will continue doing "one-off" shows.
So in 2018 hopefully P.J. will be invited back by Robert Pratt & his partners onto "60's Gold". P.J.Proby & The Pacemakers.
   Fingers Crossed everybody!
      Ron  :D

Title: Re: Sixties gold
Post by Ron on 29th Nov, 2017 at 11:53am
I see on the 2017 "60's Gold" U.K. tour three of the stars have sometimes dropped out because of illness. Gerry was so ill last Sunday that he could not appear in Brum & so a replacement was quickly found. Don't know who it was but it should have been P.J.
Gerry is retiring from long tours anyway after this one,his health cannot take all the thousands & thousands of miles needed to be driven in total between all the gigs. P.J. is sensible....he has a young driver to get him around & he has no problem paying for this privilege. So when sensible P.J. comes onstage anywhere in the U.K. he always looks energetic & well.
But I hope Gerry can recover & be back for the very last date on this "60's Gold" tour.....Leeds on the 2nd December.
I also hope the brilliant, fit & healthy singer P.J. Proby gets put back on this tour in 2018. He's the best of the lot!

For the 2018 60's Gold" tour the four groups booked are: The Searchers,The Fortunes,The Merseybeats & Vanity Fare.Right at this moment Chimes International are considering adding P.J. to the bill. WOW! I hope & pray this happens.
So very soon the decision will be made & if it's a YES then P.J. will be backed by Vanity Fare.If P.J. is one of the five acts then I will definitely be coming over a couple of times to see this great show in areas suited to me.

Title: Re: Sixties gold
Post by Ron on 19th Jan, 2018 at 10:38am
Wonderful news about P.J. As for The Searchers they will be quitting giant U.K. tours after the 2018 "60's Gold" is over. Just like Gerry Marsden it's getting too much for them, as they get older, to constantly travel by car all over the U.K. non stop. So they will continue doing ordinary gigs but not the big tours that mean they, in a tired way, have to travel thousands of miles.
P.J.'s method of getting to all the gigs is the  most sensible but it does cost him money.
    Ron

This is very good news - I hope the show comes down south as well.  I can't drive now and train travel has become an issue with me - also I now have a worry over large venues, as in December at Wembley Arena - Andre Rieu concert, I had a seizure and missed all of the second half - as did my family who were with me.  I'm still under "investigation" for the cause.  Old age...... >:(

Some gigs are already selling tickets for "60's Gold" & some P.J. fans already have them. I suppose a few theatres are fast & others not so fast.We still have to see the "official" gig list & that will be out soon.
I'll be going to Margate & then to Dartford (2 shows) the day after.

P.S. I 'm still hoping that earlier in 2018 P.J. may get a few solo shows "somewhere" & then we can see him for an hour or even more onstage.

P.J. never wants to retire so that's great news! However all the 60's tours are one by one finishing. The 2018 "60's Gold" is the final one for them. So P.J. & others will find it harder to get "work" from 2019 onwards.
