I wish Brian Matthew all the best as he has not been too well lately. He should be back doing "SOTS" on Sat. 29th October. I've sent in my request for a P.J. song for his birthday on the 6th November....if mine isn't played then hopefully someone else's is!
Sir Tim Rice has been sitting in for Brian but to be honest he doesn't do it half as good. Tim does not sound sincere sometimes & he also now & again talks to the listeners as if they are all half demented. When Brian was ill a few years back Johnny Walker stood in & I had to switch him off....he was so full of himself! Come back soon Brian..you are the perfect presenter of "SOTS"

There will never be anyone to take over from Brian Matthew. The SOTS show is his, and his alone. He presents a fabulous show every Saturday. Glad to hear he will be back next week.

I didn't realise Brian was 83 years young! Apart from Jimmy Young he must be the oldest radio presenter in the U.K. I think he should get an O.B.E or an M.B.E or possibly even a knighthood. He's been dee-jaying on radio & TV for 50 plus years!!
He was The Beatles favourite interviewer back when they first got famous.
Shortly EMI are to release a compilation CD of Brian's favourite hits....wonder if there'll be a song by P.J. included?

P.S. I was in touch a few years ago with his assistant on the  "Thank Your Lucky Stars" TV pop show....Janice Nicholls. She contributed a pic & a few words to P.J.'s 70th Birthday book.If any fans have not got that yet then you're really missing out! As Janice would have said "O'ill give it foive!"

The Birthday Book is the best P.J.Proby publication I have ever seen.....40 pages of b/w & colourful class.Stories from fans & friends & many personalities. Available from DutchBrand & has been selling well since Nov. 2008.Once they have gone then it's too late.

Hi Ron,
You're right, the Birthday Booklet is a great glossy magazine and a must for the real fans. Sadly, it's currently sold out. However, we're waiting for Leanne to send us some more from Australia. Maybe you could remind her one day? She seems to have misplaced them... Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley

I'll send Leanne an e-mail asap. At the moment she's in N.Z following her other fave singer John Rowles on tour.

Brian Matthew was back today chairing the programme. He played a great song by Terry Stafford that would be perfect for P.J. to put on a CD " I'll Touch A Star"...a beautiful song written by Ben Weisman.
Brian also corrected the facts about a Crickets song he played a month ago (Fell in Love With A Face) when he said P.J. was the vocalist. He corrected that so that mystery is still ongoing!. Finally Brian played a great Proby song "Why Baby Why". With P.J's birthday coming up Sunday,6th November on his next show Brian should also be playing another Proby classic.Hopefully it will be a dedication from a loyal Forum fan.

I heard Brian clearing the mystery involving PJ and that song. And it was great to hear "Why, Baby Why" again. Thank heaven Brian Matthew is back on SOTS, he at least plays PJs tunes, and I look forward to next weeks show in anticipation.

I wasn't going to come back to the subject of the vocalist on 'Fell In Love With A Face' and I was really surprised to hear Brian Matthew refer to it on today's SOTS. In fact, Barry and Ron, he didn't clear up the mystery of the vocalist's identity, he just reported a P J fan's point of view. As I said on this forum, we have Jerry Allison, (who should know who he auditioned) saying it was Jett Powers (aka P J) and P J himself (who should know whether he auditioned or not) saying it wasn't him. So the two people personally involved give completely opposite accounts. Mystery definitely not solved.

It is strange that both guys believe the opposite. I actually wish that Jerry's account was true & it would be yet another string to P.J.'s bow! You're right Ron..it did not clear up the mystery & there's still a 50/50 chance Jerry Allison is correct! As for certain fans saying it's definitely NOT P.J.'s voice.....you can never say that 'cos P.J. is the man of a thousand voices!

I was surprised that Brian Mathew said it was cleared up in view of what Ron Gwen had reported on this forum - I'm not convinced it wasn't PJ - simply because his memory goes astray at times.  Brian having played PJ this week may not do so next week because I remember 2 years ago I requested for PJs birthday and a record was played the week before and Not on his birthday - so don't hold your breath folks.  Nice if he does though. Well well well! I don't bloody well believe it!! Brian "Victor" Matthew did not mention P.J.'s birthday on today's programme & did not play a Proby song to go with it! The rest of the year he does give P.J. a fair share of air-time but on his birthday it usually goes quiet. This is not the first time P.J. 's birthday was not mentioned..very strange! it's left me grumpy!
Anyway I've e-mailed the"SOTS" programme asking if they can put things right by playing a P.J. song next week. Hope they oblige!

Yes I had my alarm set for 8 this morning and waited and waited but no song for PJ, very disappointing. I have sent in a request to Sunday Love songs but don't hold out much hope.
