The Museum Of Sydney is searching for items of interest (including recollections of concerts) pertaining to Sydney Stadium for an exhibition in 2012. Please assist if you have anything of interest that you can contribute.
A new page has been added to the Aussie P.J. Proby website
giving details & named after the exhibition: "Boxers, Beatles & Bobby Soxers".
Please check it out & assist if you can.
Best Regards,
Tony

I actually think that it's mainly the Australian Proby fans that can & will assist Tony in his quest to get some items & memories of the Sydney Stadium available for the exhibition that starts later on in the year. I am now the proud owner of the blue buckle shoes that P.J. wore in Oz (& other places) & that were signed & given to Sue Gamble in 1965. Much as I would love to I could never risk sending them back to Australia to be part of the exhibition. What about if they went "walkies"? LOL!
I know Leanne Thomas of Ipswich,Australia has a single blue P.J. shoe which she may consider loaning out. As for any of P.J.'s velvet costumes, ripped or not,I have never, ever seen any news about what happened to them.Someone from somewhere must know something.

C'mon Ron,
I had no idea you'd shamelessly hijacked those shoes from Australia!
Sure, we've got convict blood here, but there's no way we'd do anything with P.J.'s shoes other than worship them.
Reckon if you listen to your conscience you'll send them back for the exhibition where they belong. I reckon they will be one of the major exhibits & it would be fabulous to see P.J. receive the recognition that he deserves.
Name your price for insurance Ron & we'll double it & cover the premium & ensure they get back to you safely. No risk mate! We've got tickets, programs, posters etc., but no one could beat P.J.'s buckled shoes. Only competition I know of is legendary trailblazing Aussie rocker Johnny O'Keefe's moccasins which will be included in the display & rightly so. But they were '50's gear & don't compare to P.J.'s personally autographed unique 60's gear. Embarrassed

Sorry Probyfan but I could never risk sending the blue buckle shoes to Australia. If they ever got lost in the post no amount of insurance dosh would make up for it.They could go awol on the way to Oz or on the way back to Belgium.Someone might even take a shine to them in the exhibition & shove 'em up their jumper & walk out.Paintings worth millions by Van Gogh & other famous artists have been nicked from different exhibitions so it is possible.
You probably think I am a "killjoy" but sorry I never have been a risk-taker & never will be.Maybe Leanne from Ipswich,Oz will lend you her blue P.J. shoe. Or maybe there's someone on this forum who also owns a pair of P.J. shoes who would be prepared to take the risk.Once again sorry mate.

Hi Ron,
Personally, I'm a believer in exhibitions and musea. Art should be available to be viewed by the public, rich or poor. Admittance to musea should be free and musea should be sponsored by governments. It has an educational value. I'm against private art collectors.
Likewise, I believe that P.J. Proby's original velvet shoes should be made available to be viewed by many. The public is entitled to see this very rare reminder of the Sixties. One person can never really own a piece of history.
However, I understand your worries. You're like a chicken sitting on the golden eggs. Still, you have to remember art theft is very rare and P.J. Proby's shoes are not to be compared with a Vincent van Gogh or Rembrandt. I'm sure the Sydney Stadium could provide a safe way of transport and guarantee the safety. You might even ask for a ticket to bring them yourself and take them home again.  Smiley  Well, how about that?

Those shoes ain't made for walkin'......sorry but if anybody wants to see the blue buckle shoes that were autographed by P.J. after an Oz show in 1965 then you're more than welcome to just turn up at my place in Belgium & I'll even let you try them on.They are size 9. I did bring them over to Dartford in 2010 to show P.J. & any fans that wanted to see them.
Pauline also has a P.J. shoe & Leanne Thomas too.Pauline agrees with my point of view, don't know about Leanne. To me she would be the obvious lady to ask.She lives in Ipswich,Oz. How far is that from Sydney?
  Ron Cheesy
P.S. I've been on a plane once....for me ONCE was enough!
PPS. If ever there is in England a "P.J. get-together" I'd be more than happy to bring my monster P.J. collection over in the boot of my M.G.B or Alfa & let my fellow friends & fans ogle everything! LOL!

'Onya Manja! I agree with you, but have to admit I can see where Ron & Pauline are coming from & I can understand their concerns & have great respect for both as I know they are both totally loyal to P.J.
I trust that shoe of yours isn't mauve coloured Pauline?

We will be able to contribute a '66 poster, & tickets, '65 program & pics by Jack Seymour, provided he is agreeable, not only of P.J.P., but also support acts Dinah Lee & The Easybeats. These items will be of great interest to those interested in '60's music. Only trouble is I believe some people will just pass on by with a fleeting glance whereas something like a shoe, or shoes, would stop them in their tracks & demand attention. Hope you agree Leanne?? You are virtually my last hope of having a major feature item to distinguish P.J. from his contemporaries.
However, a desperate man does desperate things & I'm in the running to obtain the Australian Prime Minister's missing shoe after the Australia Day debacle in Canberra, which bears a striking similarity to one of yours Ron. Better check you've still got two! Grin
Not sure if that story made the overseas press, so I will read up on an earlier post about attaching photos & do so over the weekend in an attempt to explain my warped sense of humour.

The Aussie Prime Minister losing her shoe on "Australia Day" did make international headlines on TV & the newspapers.I saw the footage & it was her own bodyguards that c****d everything up.They panicked much too quickly & whisked her roughly away. In my opinion the "protestors" should have been told to leave by the police & if they failed to obey then out with the truncheons!
       Ron Angry
P.S. The "protestors" did offer her the shoe back afterwards!

hi Probyfan,
Take a look in the P.J. birthday book issued in 2008. On page 13 is Pauline's Proby shoe that she got in Newcastle,England in 1965.

The Sydney Museum exhibition was tentatively named "Boxers, Beatles & Bobbysoxers" but has been renamed "The Wild Ones- Sydney Stadium-1908-1970" & the Aussie website has been updated to reflect this;

Most who saw our man in the 60's would agree that the new name is very appropriate for P.J.
Unfortunately items sought from fans weren't forthcoming & I understand their reasoning, but let's face it, you can hide it all in a shoe box or whatever but given the way things are financially in the world today the best chance of seeing P.J. back in Australia is to remind people what a hit he was out here. I've never seen anyone onstage who endeared themselves to Aussie audiences the way P.J. has done every time.
P.J. may not be one of the major exhibition attractions as I'd hoped but at least he will be prominent with my P.J. Proby 1966 Australian Tour poster prominently displayed.
Myself & Jacquie have been invited to the official opening of the exhibition which will no doubt be attended by Aussie stars & promoters from past & present & you can be assured that  they won't be leaving without knowing that P.J. is still performing & would be happy to tour Australia again.
Cheers,
Probyfan

Here is a link to ABCTV news coverage of The Wild Ones exhibition. Unfortunately there is no mention of P.J. but I think it will be of general interest to most fans.

Thanks for that link Probyfan. As for getting P.J. Proby back to Australia...on FaceBook there is a site run by Leanne Thomas called  "P.J.Proby for Australia 2013" It was previously called "P.J.Proby for Australia 2012" but that is not going to happen now.The Oz fans desperately want to see P.J. again...last time was in 2004. I've left a couple of statements on FB asking the fans to contact Australian promotors & theatre owners & give P.J.'s name a plug & see how they react. If you don't try you'll never know."Sixties Gold" will be in Australia next year with Gerry Marsden but probably not with P.J. on board. My only suggestion is for the fans to e-mail or write to Chimes International pleading with them to send P.J. "down-under" once more.
